I'm more happy with designing a decent balanced game with a good story that worrying about a game mechanic that I'm too unskilled to use, but if you find that action rpg's is your only desire, and you can't accomplish that as of yet, nor are you willing to compromise and do a game you have the skills to do, then you need to ask yourself is it worth the time and effort needed to learn.
Instead, I could try and make it as a jrpg, but adjust the battles so that they are still fast and fresh. The question is, is it worth your time? If not, can you create your dream project another way?Įxample: I have this great concept for a sci-fi game that I'd love to see as an action rpg, with custom designed battles, but I'll probably never get that far along. It helps that you have a bit of programming knowledge, but it's never too late to start. I've been too lazy to learn scripting myself, mainly because this is just a hobby program for me anyways, but some have learned scripting and programming (at least to make RM do what they want) in less than 1 year. If you're expecting a quick turn-around, it probably won't happen. If its possible to make smt good (i mean playable and fun to play also) i dont want to bother with Unity or UE tbh.You can always study and learn. Or should i go back to Unity or begin to learn UE instead? Im kinda like a student in Unity, have no knowledge about UE and im kinda fluent with GMS. Nothing too special but fun to play between our friends and families. My goal is basically make something like that old Dynasty warriors 3-4-5 (PS2 era) or again old Devil May Cry kinda game. My question is that can i make an efficient working game with it? Just to give some examples dont think games like Witcher 3 or God of War lol. I just learned about GMS2 and saw some people making 3d games with it. I realised that i need 2-3 months to just to learn UE which again wont gonna work flawless in my PC. Hi guys, i always used GM Studio to make 2D games and after a while me and my friend want to make a 3D hack and slash or nowadays Action/RPG kinda game just to improve our knowledge and practice.īut i dont want to learn Unreal Engine since i dont have a super high end computer and tbh Unreal Engine is weird compared to Unity, GM or C++ itself which are the only ones i learned myself over years. Unity starts to move off in another direction - it wants to make physics-based 3D games, so you’ll have to fight it a little if you want a sprite-based 2D style RPG, and you’ll have to do most of the work yourself though at least with Unity, you code in C, not a new proprietary language you’d need to learn just for that engine like Game Maker uses.
